My overnight oats obsession started when I was nursing my first about 5 years ago. I craved nutrient dense recipes that also gave a boost to my milk supply. My almond coconut lactation overnight oats became a daily snack while nursing my third.

While my milk supply has long dried up, my love for overnight oats remains strong. This is the perfect recipe for busy mornings since they are made in advance and I simply just grab one out of the fridge and breakfast is done.

If you have never had overnight oats before, they are a wonderful make ahead breakfast, snack, or even dessert, that is packed with whole ingredients, protein, and fiber. These chocolate peanut butter overnight oats give you all the flavor of a chocolate peanut butter cup with the added bonus of actually being good for you!

Why We Love Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Packed Overnight Oats

One of the main things I love about making overnight oats is simply that I don’t have a whole mess of dishes in the morning after breakfast. It is an easy to clean up snack that gives me a strong start first thing in the morning.

Some of the other reasons I think you will love adding these chocolate peanut butter overnight oats to your meal planning menu include:

  • Easy to make. Simply stir your ingredients together cover and chill overnight night to enjoy the next day or up to 5 days in advance.
  • Great flavor. If you are into chocolate and peanut butter, these overnight oats will satisfy that craving any time of day!
  • Boosted with a scoop of chocolate protein. Instead of using cocoa powder, I use a scoop of chocolate protein powder for an added boost of protein in your day.

Dairy-Free Changes to Overnight Oats

There are a few different ingredients you will want to keep in mind when making dairy-free overnight oats.

  • Non-dairy milk. You can use your favorite non-dairy milk as the liquid base for this recipe. I like using Malk because they offer a clean non-dairy milk option.
  • Vegan protein powder. I used Orgain’s Creamy Chocolate Fudge protein powder to add an extra boost of protein to the recipe.

How to Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Powder

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Old-Fashioned Oats– Old-fashioned oats will retain their shape while absorbing the liquid and keep the oatmeal from being mushy or grainy.
  • Chia Seeds– Adds a boost of protein, fiber, and Omega-3 to the oatmeal.
  • Chocolate Protein Powder– I like to use Orgain plant-based protein for this recipe.
  • Peanut Butter- Adds a salty flavor to the chocolate oatmeal.
  • Maple Syrup– Just a touch of sweetness.
  • Vanilla- Helps complement the chocolate and peanut butter flavors in the oatmeal.
  • Non-dairy milk– I like to use almond milk for overnight oats.

Step-by-Step Directions for Chocolate Protein Overnight Oats

  • Mix dry ingredients: In a 2 cup mason jar add rolled oats, chia seeds, and chocolate protein powder.
  • Add wet ingredients: Next add the maple syrup, peanut butter, vanilla, and non-dairy milk.
  • Stir together: Using a mini whisk or spoon, mix the overnight oats together.
  • Refrigerate: Secure a lid on the mason jar and store in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours before enjoying.

Ingredient Substitutions and Tips

  • Chia seeds– If you do not like them, simply omit them from the recipe. I like using them because they are a great source of fiber, protein, and Omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Maple syrup– You can omit the maple syrup if you want less sugar in the recipe. You can also sub it out for honey or agave if you prefer.
  • Non-dairy milk– Most of the time when I make these overnight oats instead of using 3/4 cup of non dairy milk, I will use 1/2 cup non-dairy milk and 1/4 cup water just so I don’t use a whole bottle of Malk making 5 jars of overnight oats.

Helpful Kitchen Tools

When it comes to making overnight oats, these are the tools I use time and again:

  • 2 cup Mason Jars– They are large enough to hold the overnight oats and also allow for mixing the oats without splashing.
  • Mini whisk– Really gets into the mason jar and breaks up the peanut butter so that it smoothly incorporates with the other ingredients.
  • Small spatula– Great for scoop out peanut butter and maple syrup into the jars.
