Learn how to air fry frozen hash browns to your ideal level of crispy with this simple guide. This practical approach to making frozen hash browns in the air fryer will give you the perfect side to your next breakfast.
I shared in my Top 10 of 2024 post that we are expecting baby number 3 this year. We are not finding out what we are having and just taking each day slowly as we prepare the house for our third child in four years.
Many people have asked if I have any suspicions about what we are having/ how this pregnancy compares to my first two and the honest to goodness truth is that I have no clue (not great when we have to come up with two more names…)
Each pregnancy has been different and I have craved different things with each child. For my first pregnancy I craved shredded lettuce. With our second I craved chocolate. This pregnancy I am craving salty foods, most especially hash browns.
A Food Craving Conundrum
As anyone who has experienced the joy of specific food cravings will know in order to satisfy the craving you must have the food you are craving. For me, this craving is the rounded edge hash brown patty popularized by McDonalds.
If I had an abundance of time and money I would probably drive there every time the craving strikes. However, as anyone with toddlers knows, getting two kids out the door, in the car, and through a drive thru is not something to be taken on lightly.
Also cravings do not subscribe to the hours of a fast food chain breakfast menu. In fact, I often crave these hash browns in the evening and am quite frankly SOL.
Cue frozen hash browns. During an especially strong craving I wandered the grocery store until I found patty shaped hash browns in the freezer section.
After finding the holy grail (i.e. a bag of hash browns I can make and eat in the comfort of my own home) I had to face another dilemma- make them in the oven, fry them on the stove, or skip the bags directions and employ my most used kitchen gadget the air fryer.
Why We Love Air Fryer Frozen Hash Browns
For starters I love making these frozen hash browns in the air fryer because they meet my much needed salty food craving. Some of the other reasons we love making air fryer frozen hash browns includes:
- Customizable. You can change the cook time based on your preferred level of crispy hash brown.
- No mess. With no added oil and no messy deep frying you can make these frozen hash brown patties in the air fryer with minimal clean up.
- Quick. Whipping up these hash brown patties in the air fryer is quicker than the oven.

What to Serve with Air Fried Hash Browns
I am not one to judge if you just want to make a plate of these hash browns for a snack or single serving. But if you are looking to add them as a side, here are some additional sides or ways you can spruce them up.
- Serve them up with air fryer egg bites.
- Simply dish them out with scrambled eggs and bacon.
- Have them with some grits on the side.
- Use as the base of an avocado toast. In place of toast use a hash brown, add avocado, then scrambled eggs and a bit of green onion.
