I am the first to admit I was wrong about air fryers. My original instinct was that there was no need for another kitchen gadget that my oven or microwave could handle just as easily.

I love making these air fryer pita chips because they are a naturally dairy-free food.

My one suggestion for this recipe is to check the nutritional information on the pita bread to ensure it’s dairy-free before you buy it. You might even luck out and find certified vegan options at your local grocery store.

How to Make Pita Chips in the Air Fryer

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Pita Bread– Either white or wheat pita pockets work great in this recipe.
  • Olive Oil– Brushed on the pita bread to help the seasoning stick.
  • Seasoning– A blend of salt, pepper, garlic, and parsley coat these crispy air fryer pita chips.

Step-by-Step Directions for Air Fryer Pita Chips

  • Cut To begin, cut each pita round into 4 sections.
  • Pull apart: Once cut, pull apart the quartered pita rounds into 2 pieces making 8 wedges per pita round.
  • Oil: Using a pastry brush, brush a light amount of olive oil on the tops and bottoms of each of the pita chips.
  • Mix: Next, mix together salt, pepper, garlic powder, and parsley in a small bowl.
  • Season: Sprinkle the seasoning blend on the front and backs of the pita chips. Then, set the seasoned pita chips aside.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 325°F.
  • Air Fry: Once preheated add the pita chips to the air fryer and cook for 6 minutes. (You do not have to make a single layer just space them out as best you can).
  • Turn the chips halfway through baking.
  • Remove: After the baking time ends, remove the vegan pita chips from air fryer and enjoy!

Storing Vegan Pita Chips

If you are planning on making these pita chips in advance, here are a few helpful tips for keeping them fresh and crisp.

  • After cooking, allow the pita chips to cool completely.
  • Once completely cooled, place in an air tight container and store at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Please note that if you do not wait for the pita chips to cool, they will condensate in the container, lose their crispiness, and go bad quickly.

Ingredients

  • 2 Pita Bread Pockets
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil you might not use all of it
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • teaspoon Pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Parsley

Instructions

  1. Cut each pita round into 4 sections then pull apart quartered pita rounds into 2 pieces making 8 wedges per pita round.

  2. Brush a light amount of olive oil on the tops and bottoms of each of the pita chips.

  3. In a small bowl mix together ¼ teaspoon salt, ⅛ teaspoon pepper, ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, and ¼ teaspoon parsley.

  4. Sprinkle the seasoning blend on the front and backs of the pita chips. Set the seasoned pita chips aside.

  5. Preheat the air fryer to 325°F.

  6. Once preheated add the pita chips to the air fryer and cook for 6 minutes. (You do not have to make a single layer just space them out as best you can).
