A Dairy-Free Cookie Box

Last Updated on January 16, 2022 by Annie

I’m not sure about you, but this holiday season felt like it came and went in the blink of an eye. Maybe because it was a little different, possibly because I spent quite a few days baking cookies, or maybe it was the 28 hours driving to and from Texas. Whatever the reason, it just seemed to fly this year which is why I am sharing my dairy-free cookie box just a little late…

Every year, I LOVE making a box of treats for gifting to others. One family member in particular typically requests a box of chocolate treats, from fudge to brownies to chocolate crinkle cookies- if it’s chocolate, it goes in the box.

This year, as I began prepping ideas for the chocolate box I began thinking about the cookies I love to eat during the holiday season as well as the cookies I love sharing with others. While we can all agree this year has been anything but business as usual we added a cross country move and a kitchen renovation project that made sharing those cookies with other a little more difficult.

So, this year I’m sharing, virtually (because is there really any other way to share things this year??), the cookies I put in my 2020 cookie box. Without further ado, my 2020 Holiday Cookie Box.

The Cookies in the Box

Snickerdoodles

It’s hard to imagine a holiday cookie box without a quintessential holiday cookie. Snickerdoodles are soft, tender, and loaded with cinnamon sugary goodness. Whether you are sipping a cup of coffee or dunking them into a crisp cup of almond milk, these delightful cookies are the perfect holiday treat!

Holiday Chocolate Chip Cookies

These delicious cookies made their appearance here on the blog as Valentine’s Day Cookies. To deck these chocolaty cookies out for the holidays I swapped the white and pink sprinkles for some festive green, red, and white ones. I also doubled the dark chocolate and did away with the white chocolate- basically making them chocolate chip cookies with sprinkles.

Tender on the inside but firm enough to pack into a shippable box, these holiday cookies will bring the spirit of the season to whoever opens the cookie box!

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Chocolaty, fudgy, and coated in powdered sugar these chocolate crinkle cookies are an absolute holiday delight. Your cookie box just isn’t complete without a cookie made entirely out of chocolate! Soft and chewy yet durable enough to stack and ship in a box, this classic Christmas cookie is a must add to your dairy-free cookie box.

Soft Ginger Cookies

New to the blog this year- these soft ginger cookies will give your holiday cookie box some flavor and variety! Soft in the middle, chewy on the outside, with just the right amount of gingery spice you will not want to skip this cookie! They are lightly spiced and perfect for stacking into a shippable, gift-able tin.

Vegan Peppermint Bark

While not a cookie, this easy to make dairy-free peppermint bark makes a delightful addition to any cookie box! Made with 5 ingredients, this delicious chocolaty treat is quick to make, break, and share. Bag it up and add to your cookie box for easier shipping.

Magic Cookie Bars

Also called Hello Dolly bars or 7 layer bars, these magic cookie bars are a multi-flavored, decadent dessert perfect for stacking into a holiday cookie box. I like adding these cookies in the middle of the box and stack wrapped cookies around them, but they can also be packed along the edges of the box. Wherever you add them to the box, they will be treasured all the same!

Dairy-free Swaps for a Cookie Box

Some of the biggest swaps and substitutions needed for this holiday cookie box include:

-Changing butter to a plant based butter option.
-Using dairy-free chocolate and dairy-free chocolate chips.
-Getting sweetened condensed coconut milk to make the magic cookie bars.

How do you pick the cookies to go in a cookie box?

When you are making a box to ship having cookies that are easy to stack, warp, and pack into a box. I like to pick cookies that can be stacked back to back and wrapped tightly into plastic wrap. This helps keep the cookies fresh and in shape as they ship across the country!
