As I began writing this post, I went back to look at some of my older banana bread recipes and I simply could not believe that it had been 5 years since the last time I shared a recipe for a loaf of banana bread.

Now, I am not saying I have been working on the recipe you have here today for 5 years. But it has been puttered around with close to a dozen times to reach the final version you have before you today.

This soft and chewy banana bread has all of the flavor you love about banana bread with the added simplicity of no eggs and no oil. Throw in some vegan mini chocolate chips and you are looking at sweet treat you will want to enjoy all day long.

Why We Love Vegan Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

My toddlers might just be the biggest supporters of this easy vegan banana bread recipe. Some of the reasons we love making this chocolate chip banana bread include:

  • No eggs. Between the sky high prices for eggs as well as their scarcity, making this banana bread recipe without eggs is an easy and cost effective change.
  • Simple steps. Making this vegan banana bread with my toddlers is a cinch because the steps are pretty much measure, pour, and mix.
  • Moist + flavorful. Without eggs and oil, this banana bread is still a moist and flavorful treat!

Vegan Changes to Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

To make this a vegan treat I have made a few adjustments that keep the flavor and rise of a traditional banana bread without any of the animal by-products.

  • Non-dairy buttermilk– Mixing a plant based milk with apple cider vinegar results in a vegan buttermilk that can be used to activate the baking soda to give the bread rise.
  • Vegan chocolate chips– In place of a traditional chocolate chip, I used a vegan mini chocolate chip to add little pockets of chocolaty goodness.

How to Make Vegan Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Non-dairy buttermilk- A mixture of non-dairy milk and apple cider vinegar.
  • Bananas- Those beautiful speckled ripe bananas that are kinda maybe questionable will work wonders in this recipe.
  • Sugar– Granulated sugar for a boost of sweetness.
  • Vanilla- Adds a hint of flavor to the sweet bread.
  • Flour– All purpose flour adds structure to the vegan bread.
  • Salt– A little boost of flavor.
  • Baking soda– Works with the buttermilk mixture to give the loaf a beautiful rise.
  • Dairy-free chocolate chips– For those delicious pockets of chocolaty goodness in each slice.
