I don’t know about you, but I grew up drinking (and selling- no my homemade lemonade stands were nothing more than boxed) that pink powdered Crystal Light lemonade. Something about the lemonade being pink probably made it taste better or “less tart” than its yellow counterpart but that also could have been the massive quantities of aspartame used to make it “sugar-free” and oh so delicious!

It wasn’t until a painfully embarrassing amount of time before I learned how to actually make lemonade without the powdered pack and I can honestly say I will not be going back. When you make your own lemonade you are able to control every aspect of what goes into it from the amount of sugar you use to the kinds of fruits you might sweeten or flavor it up with.

How to Make Pineapple Lemonade

If you have always been an out of the packet lemonade drinker too, now is the time to try your hand at making your own! With 4 fresh ingredients and just a few simple steps, you will be on your way to homemade lemonade in no time!

Pineapple Lemonade Ingredients

  • Lemon Juice- Fresh works best in my opinion but in a pinch, you can also use pre-bottled lemon juice.
  • Pineapple- Fresh chunks of pineapple that you will muddle and mix into the lemonade.
  • Sugar- To balance the tart flavor of lemon.
  • Water- Both for making a simple syrup and for mixing into the lemonade.

Step 1: Make a Simple Syrup

  • In a small saucepan, heat 1/2 cup of sugar with 1 cup of water.
  • Stir and cook until the sugar dissolves into the water, about 5-10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and allow the simple syrup to cool for about 10 minutes before mixing it into lemonade.

Step 2: Prep the Fruit

  • Juice 4-5 lemons to get 1 cup of fresh lemon juice. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, muddle 2 cups of fresh pineapple chunks. Try to get as much juice out of the pineapple as possible and break the chunks up into small little bits.
  • Mix the lemon juice and muddled pineapple (juice and bits) into the base of a large pitcher.

Step 3: Make Lemonade

  • Add simple syrup to the pitcher and stir.
  • Pour the remaining 4 cups of water into the pitcher and stir until completely mixed.
  • Refrigerate the lemonade until chilled or serve over ice.

Homemade Lemonade Facts:

How do you make lemonade from scratch?

The easiest way to make lemonade from scratch is using a simple syrup base, adding in fresh lemon juice, and then topping the mixture off with additional water to dilute both the sugar and lemon to a more balanced blend.

How long does pineapple lemonade last?

This refreshing pineapple lemonade will keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Is it cheaper to make your own lemonade?

This depends. For this particular lemonade, the pineapple adds an additional cost making it a little less cost-effective to make it yourself. That said, the quality of homemade lemonade truly can’t be beaten and in my opinion, I would much rather spend a little more to make a quality glass of lemonade.

Is homemade lemonade good for you?

This also depends. I would say it is definitely better for you than a store-bought mix because of the questionable ingredients listed in the powdery mix. But like all good things, lemonade should be consumed in moderation as some homemade lemonades go overboard with the sugar.

Since I added fresh pineapple juice and muddled pineapple to the lemonade I used half the amount of sugar most homemade lemonades call for making this sweet lemonade just a little better for you than most.
