As a food blogger, (can I start calling myself that after 6 years of blogging?) you sometimes have to choose between a delicious recipe that ticks all of your cravings and writing a recipe that ticks all of your readers’ cravings.

Thankfully for both of us, this is one of those magical unicorn recipes that hits all of my 3rd trimester cravings while also simultaneously being a recipe that seems to click with all of your cravings as well. Not to mention, every member of my households’ cravings. It’s truly a win-win-win here.

I mean, whats not to love about the flavor combo of chocolate and peanut butter? But throw in the iconic flavor of crushed Oreo cookies and you are really working with something addictive.

Some of the other reasons we love making these chocolate peanut butter truffles include:

  • Kid-friendly + Kid-approved. These chocolate and peanut butter balls are easy to make with your littles and they are also easily enjoyed by them too.
  • Better served chilled. I love eating these fresh out of the freezer. They are cool, extra crunchy, and ultra-satisfying.

Dairy-Free Changes to Chocolate Peanut Butter Oreo Truffles

There are a few ingredients you will want to make sure are dairy-free for this Oreo truffle recipe.

  • Dairy-Free Cream Cheese. Pick your favorite plain vegan cream cheese to add a smooth texture to the truffle balls. It’s important to keep in mind the less flavor the cream cheese has, the better. My go-to dairy-free cream cheese is Kite Hill.
  • Vegan Chocolate Chips. If you plan to dip the truffle balls in the end (I highly recommend), be sure to use your preferred vegan chocolate chip.

Tips for Dipping Truffles in Chocolate

As someone who loves just about everything dipped in chocolate, I have found there is a perfect balance when dipping truffles in chocolate.

Here are some tips for making the most out of your vegan chocolate coating.

  • Chill the balls first. This makes them less crumbly during dipping.
  • Use a double broiler. This will keep the chocolate at an even temperature so it’s just as easy to dip the first ball as it is to dip the last.

How to Coat Your Truffles with Chocolate

  • Use a fork and spoon to coat the balls:
  • Place a truffle ball on the fork. Do not stab the fork into the truffle, simply place it on top of the fork.
  • Lower the fork into the melted chocolate mixture.
  • Use the spoon to pour chocolate over the tops and sides of the truffle ball.
  • Do not roll the ball in the chocolate, simply scoop and cascade the chocolate over the ball.
  • Lift the truffle out of the chocolate and tap the base of the fork on a small rubber spatula to help remove excess chocolate. Repeat a few times for each ball.
  • Get a knife or an offset spatula to guide the truffle ball off the fork and onto the parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle with any toppings you want to stick like crushed peanuts or extra Oreo cookie crumbs.
  • Return the tray to the refrigerator or freezer to allow the chocolate to set.

Storing, Freezing, and Reheating Tips

There are two ways you will want to store these truffle balls, in the refrigerator or in the freezer.

  • Refrigerator– These peanut butter Oreo truffles will keep in the refrigerator for up to 7 days in an airtight container.
  • Freezer– When stored in a freezer-safe container, these truffle balls will keep up to 3 months (assuming you don’t sneak one every hour on the hour).
