During the holidays my younger sister asked my mom, older sister, and I if we had a go-to recipe for deviled eggs. I sent her my classic deviled eggs recipe, which my mom had walked me through many years before.

My older sister responded with something similar to the classic deviled egg recipe but in place of the lemon juice, she uses dill pickle juice. This piqued my interest because I am always looking for a new and delicious way to flavor deviled eggs and I went running with the dill pickle flavor.

Seasoned with a little dill, some tang from the dill pickle juice, and a crunch from the pickle relish, these delicious and dilly deviled eggs are absolutely addictive.

Steps for Making Dilly Deviled Eggs

Step 1: Hard Boil the Eggs

Air Fryer Method

Since I started air frying whole eggs it’s been my go-to method for making easy, hands free hard boiled eggs.

  • Preheat the air fryer to 250°F and set the timer to 16 minutes.
  • Add eggs: Once preheated, place 6 eggs in the air fryer and cook 16 minutes.
  • Do not open the air fryer or move the eggs when the air fryer says to turn the food.
  • Chill: Once cooked, remove the eggs from the air fryer and place into an ice bath for 10 minutes.
  • Peel: Crack the eggs and run under cold water to peel.

The Food Lab

But if you don’t have an air fryer (Amazon affiliate link) I will walk you through my other tried and trusted method for hard boiling eggs, The Food Lab way.

  • Boil water: Bring a large pot of water to boil.
  • Add the eggs: Once the water is boiling, carefully lower the eggs into the pot.
  • Ice the water: After about 30 seconds add 12 ice cubes to the pot. Bring the water back to a boil.
  • Simmer: Once the water begins to boil, lower the temperature to a simmer and cook for 11 minutes.
  • Drain and Peel: Drain the water and peel the eggs under cool running water.

Step 2: Assemble the Dill Pickle Deviled Eggs

Once you have your eggs hard boiled, you are ready to make these delicious deviled eggs.

  • Slice the eggs in half lengthwise.
  • Scoop out the yolks and place them in a medium-sized bowl.
  • Add remaining ingredients: Add mayo, mustard, dill pickle juice, salt, pepper, onion powder, dried dill, and dill pickle relish to the bowl.
  • Stir until the yolks are smooth and creamy.
  • Fill the egg whites with about 1 Tablespoon of filling per egg white half.
  • Garnish with additional dill pickle relish and fresh dill.
  • Serve immediately or refrigerate before serving.

Helpful Kitchen Tools

Whether you are prepping for an Easter brunch or simply making some delicious deviled eggs, here are a few kitchen tools you might find helpful in the cooking process.

  • Glass mixing bowls (Amazon affiliate link)– These come in handy for the ice bath as well as mixing up the filling.
  • Deviled Egg Platter (Amazon affiliate link)– Great for serving and storing deviled eggs.

Make Ahead and Storing Tips

We’ve made our fair share of deviled eggs over the years. Here are a few tips we’ve learned along the way.

  • Make ahead. There are two different ways to make these deviled eggs in advance
    • Hard boil the eggs– Hard boiled eggs can be cooked, peeled, and stored in the fridge for up to 7 days in advance.
    • Whole deviled eggs– If you plan to make the deviled eggs in advance I would suggest keeping the egg white and the filling separate until you are ready to assemble and serve. The filling will keep for up to 4 days.
  • Storing– Left over deviled eggs store in an air-tight container for up to 4 days.
    • NOTE– If you made the filling in advance take that into consideration when planning how long you will keep the leftover deviled eggs. For example if the filling was made two days in advance the leftover deviled eggs will only keep for 2 more days.
