Chocolate Covered Graham Crackers with Sea Salt
Last Updated on January 28, 2023 by Annie
Salty, sweet, and crunchy, these dairy-free dark chocolate dipped graham crackers with sea salt are a quick and delicious snack perfect for any occasion. This copy cat Trader Joe’s no-bake recipe comes together in about 20 minutes and can easily be made vegan.
Like all great ideas, this came from a craving. I know… I have a really bad habit of giving into my cravings, but if I didn’t do it, you wouldn’t have these delicious ideas! So I give into the cravings for you. You are welcome.
This particular craving hit me during a drive home from the beach. I don’t know why I assumed on the drive home we would pass Trader Joe’s as it is literally nowhere close to the beach. When I suggested we go to TJ’s my husband asked what I needed from Trader Joe’s that I could not get at ShopRite. (Insert eye roll) Ok… seriously. There are three stores in the world you don’t go to with a list because the store tells you what you need.
1. TJ Maxx
2. Target
3. Trader Joe’s
What did I need from Trader Joe’s? I don’t know… IT HADN’T TOLD ME WHAT I NEEDED YET. As this was an unacceptable response to add what would surely be over an hour to our trip, during a pandemic, I needed to come up with some things. Flowers and those delicious chocolate-dipped honey Grahams that you just can’t get at ShopRite because they are a TJ’s confection.
“Don’t those have dairy?” Damn him… After a long and uncomfortable pause, I resigned to trying to make my own. Let me tell you. These are just as good as Trader Joe’s without the dairy and now, I can make them anytime the craving strikes. Win- Win-Win.
Why You’ll Love These Dark Chocolate Dipped Graham Crackers
We love just about anything dipped in dark chocolate but a few more reasons we love these chocolate coated graham crackers include:
- Easy to make. They come together in about 10 minutes and set quickly in the freezer for a snack you can enjoy whenever the chocolate cravings strike.
- Versatile. While you might start with chocolate, there are a number of different ways you can dress these graham crackers up.
- Cost efficient. These dark chocolate dipped graham crackers are not only a dairy-free version of the Trader Joe’s Chocolate Dipped Honey Graham, they are also cheaper.
HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE COVERED GRAHAM CRACKERS WITH SEA SALT
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Graham Crackers– I used Honey Maid graham crackers but if you want to keep this recipe vegan you can swap them for a vegan graham cracker like Nabisco.
- Dark Chocolate Chips– Select a dairy-free dark chocolate chip
- Coconut Oil– Melts with the chocoalte to make the irresistable coating.
- Flaky Sea Salt– Sprinkled on top of the chocolate dipped graham cracker bites for the ultimate salty meets sweet treat you will want to make again and again.
Directions for Chocolate Covered Grahams
- Prepare a baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
- Cut the graham crackers: Begin by breaking the graham crackers down the perforated lines. Then, using a sharp knife cut the rectangles into 2 squares. Set aside.
- Melt the chocolate: In a small bowl melt together dark chocolate and coconut oil. Microwave together for 30 seconds and then stir. Continue this process until smooth.
- Coat the graham crackers: Dip the graham cracker squares into the melted chocolate mixture and lift out with a fork.
- Tap excess chocolate: Tap off the excess chocolate and then place the chocolate-dipped graham cracker squares on the parchment paper.
- Salt the tops: Sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
- Repeat this process with the remaining graham crackers.
- Freeze: Put in the parchment paper lined baking sheet in the freezer for 10 minutes to set.
- Store: Once they are set, remove from freezer and allow to come to room temperature before storing in a Tupperware.
Storing and Freezing Dark Chocolate Coated Graham Crackers
Once you have frozen the dark chocolate coated graham crackers allow them to come completely to room temperature before storing (unless you plan to store them in the freezer).
- Room temperature– Keep in an air-tight container for up to 5 days.
- Frozen– Personally, this is my favorite way to store these graham crackers. They will keep in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months (not that they last longer than a day in our home…)

Helpful Kitchen Tools and Ingredients
This recipe really doesn’t require any out of the ordinary tools. Some of the main ingredients you will need include:
- Coconut oil– Easy to store, scoop, and heat.
- Flaky Sea Salt– I sprinkle Flaksalt on ALLLLLLL of my baked goods.
- Dairy-Free Dark Chocolate– For an intensely dark chocolate flavor.
DAIRY-FREE and Vegan CHANGES
Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Covered Honey Grahams with Sea Salt are absolutely addictive. I could consume an entire box in one sitting. They do however contain milk and that just doesn’t sit well with me so here’s how you can make this a dairy-free and even vegan treat!
- Dairy-Free Chocolate. Use a vegan dark chocolate for the chocolate coating. A few brands I have tired and like include:
- Coconut Oil- By adding coconut oil to the dairy-free chocolate you are able to get a smoother dip per cracker.
- Nabisco Graham Crackers make this a vegan chocolate coated treat.
