Deliciously dairy-free, this cheddar and onion beer bread recipe makes a soft and salty quick bread without yeast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Cheddar Shreds
  • ½ cup Green Onion (chopped)
  • ¼ cup Honey
  • 12 Ounces Beer (basic lagers are best here)
  • 4 Tablespoons Plant-based Butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and prepare a 9X5 loaf pan by spraying with a non-stick spray or coating with vegan butter. Set aside until later.
  2. In a large mixing bowl stir together 3 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 cup Violife cheddar cheese shreds (or another dairy-free cheese shred) and 1/2 cup chopped green onion.
  3. Once throughly stirred, pour a 12 oz beer and 1/4 cup honey over the flour mixture. Stir the honey and beer into the flour until combined.
  4. Transfer the bread dough into the loaf pan and top with 4 tablespoons of vegan or plant-based butter, sliced into slivers and sprinkle a little sea salt on top.
  5. Bake for 50-55 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Serve with a slather of vegan butter, with a bowl of chili, or just much on it every time you walk into the kitchen.
