Bailey’s Almande Review

Bailey’s Almande is a vegan alternative to Irish cream made with almond milk and real vanilla. Read on to learn some of the pros, cons, and uses for this vegan Irish cream option in my personal review of Bailey’s Almande.

For the last 5 years I have had a bottle of Bailey’s Almande stocked on our bar cart and in the liquor cabinet. Not because I am a huge fan of Irish cream, simply out of curiosity.

As we approach St. Patrick’s Day I’d love to share my experience with Bailey’s Almande to help you make an informed decision if you decide to pick up a bottle.

Please note that these are not products sent to me or items I will earn any commissions on for the review. Simply put, this is a dairy-free product I tried, liked, and could see myself using time and again.

What is Bailey’s Almande?

Its a light tasting liquor that blends Irish whiskey with a vegan almond milk making a sweet, nutty liquor. The almond milk based spirit is:

  • Vegan
  • Dairy-Free
  • Gluten-Free
  • Contains 13% alc./vol.

This alcoholic spirit can easily be sipped on its own over ice as well as mixed, shaken, or blended into a cold cocktail.

I think it’s best used in cold drinks since the product has a tendency to split when poured into hot beverages, much like many almond based coffee creamers.

What ingredients are in Bailey’s Almande?

Fun Fact- Beer, wine, and liquor do not fall under FDA regulations and therefore do not have to disclose what the actual ingredients are in their products.

That said, Bailey’s has some of the ingredients listed both on the bottle as well as on their website:

  • Almond milk made from sweet almond oil and almond essence.
  • Cane sugar
  • Purified Water
  • Vanilla

Allergen disclaimers on the bottle warn that it contains almonds and soy.

What Is The Flavor of Bailey’s Almande?

On to the hard hitting research, what does this almond liquor taste like?

Served by itself, the initial flavors I get are vanilla, followed by almond, and finished with a bit of whiskey. I find the smooth start to be misleading to the harsh, burning finish.

My husband felt like Almande did not blend the alcohol quite as smoothly as Bailey’s Irish Cream due to it’s lower ABV with a sharper finish.

Mixed in a cocktail (I enjoyed it shaken up into a mudslide) the whiskey burn at the end mellows out and provides a delightful vanilla and almond flavor to the drink.

What I Like about Bailey’s Almande

I have used it as an Irish cream replacement in baked goods as well as cocktails as it adds an extra boost of nutty almond flavor with a beautiful touch of vanilla.

Some other reasons I keep coming back to it include:

  • Dairy-Free. It’s made entirely with plant based ingredients.
  • Shelf stable, you don’t have to chill the beverage once it’s been opened.
  • Versatile. The flavor profile compliments chocolate, vanilla, coconut, and more!
  • Long shelf life. You can easily keep a bottle of this almond milk liquor on hand between 18-24 months.

What I Don’t Like about Bailey’s Almande

There are a few points to highlight when considering buying a bottle of this almond liquor.

  • Not Irish cream. I would not consider this a direct replacement to Bailey’s traditional Irish cream.
  • Better in a cocktail than on its own.
  • Splits in hot beverages. You can only use this in iced or frozen beverages.
  • Unknown ingredients. While a few of the ingredients are listed you still don’t know entirely what the beverage consists of.
  • Contains soy and almonds so be sure to avoid if you are allergic to these ingredients.

Uses for Bailey’s Almande

We have tried this almond milk based liquor in a number of different recipes ranging from beverages to desserts. Here are some ideas to use Bailey’s Almande:

Final Thoughts and Reflections on Bailey’s Almande

My overall impression is positive towards Bailey’s Almande as long as you approach it from the perspective of an almond milk liquor and not Irish Cream.

It lacks the chocolate notes present in Bailey’s Irish cream and has a vanilla and nut forward flavor.

While it can easily replace Irish cream in a number of recipes calling for Irish cream, the flavor profile for those cocktails will be a touch different.

All in all, I anticipate replacing the bottle I currently have when the time comes and continue whipping up delicious drinks and treats with it.
