Lactation Boosting Ingredients in Overnight Oats
When it comes to making food and snacks that support the production of breastmilk there are a few ingredients believed to help boost the supply. In this recipe we used:
- Brewer’s Yeast– Packed with iron, protein, and vitamin B this superfood is a galactagogue – Greek for a substance that promotes lactation.
- Old-Fashioned Oats– Iron rich oatmeal helps promote the production of breast milk.
- Ground Flax Seed– Made from ground flaxseeds, this contains phytoestrogens (dietary estrogens) which are structurally similar to estrogen produced by the body and have the potential to have effects similar to estrogen.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- Old-Fashioned Oats– Old fashioned oats work best in this recipe to give the overnight oats their thick consistency.
- Ground Flax– Used as a lactation boosting ingredient, also great for thickening up the overnight oats.
- Brewers Yeast– Another lactation boosting supplement.
- Cinnamon– Helps balance out the bitterness of the brewers yeast.
- Peanut Butter– For a creamy add to the overnight oats.
- Maple Syrup– A great plant-based sweetener for this oatmeal.
- Vanilla– For a little boost of flavor.
- Non-dairy Milk– Any non-dairy milk works great, I like to use oat milk for a little extra oaty boost.
- Dairy-free Chocolate Chips– The mini enjoy life chocolate chips are my go-to for this recipe, but you can also chop/pulse some regular sized vegan chocolate chips if mini isn’t available.

Step-by-Step Directions for Lactation Overnight Oats

- Mix together until the peanut butter is evenly distributed throughout the jar.
- Add chocolate chips and stir together.

- Chill: Place the lid on the mason jar and refrigerate the overnight oats for at least 4 hours, ideally overnight.
- Serve: Remove from fridge and enjoy!

Storing Your Overnight Oats
These overnight oats will keep in the refrigerator for no more than 5 days as long as you are not storing them with any fresh fruit in the jar.
Helpful Kitchen Tools
Making overnight oats doesn’t take any fancy tools, here are some of the kitchen utensils I find helpful when whipping up a batch of these oats.
- Mason jars– Were looking at the basic mason jars with twist on lids to get the job done here.
- Mini whisk– I feel like this helps break up the peanut butter and get it evenly distributed throughout the overnight oats.
- Liquid measuring cup– Having a cup with a pour spout helps keep the non-dairy milk from spilling when pouring into the mason jar.

How to Serve Lactation Overnight Oats
Honestly, I am too tired most of the time to even bother taking the overnight oats out of the mason jar they have been soaking in all night. I grab a spoon and dive it.
But if you are feeling like dressing these overnight oats up a bit, here are some ways to dish them out.
- Add some salted crushed peanuts to the top for a little crunch.
- Drizzle with a little vegan chocolate sauce for an added boost of chocolate.
- Chop some of your favorite berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, etc) and mix into the overnight oats for a burst of fresh fruit.
